Syantu best choice for Paris Olympics

Kathmandu. Nepalese table tennis player Santu Shrestha has been selected for the Paris Olympics 2024
He was the first in the South Asian selection held at the National Table Tennis Training Hall in Lanchaur and has succeeded in making a place in the Paris Olympics 2024. Along with this, he became the fourth player to play in the Olympics by passing the qualifying stage.

Earlier, taekwondo players Sangina Vaidya and Deepak Bishta had been selected and played in the Olympics, while Para Taekwondo’s Palesha Govardhan has also been selected for the Paris Paralympics some time ago. Even before the finals on Wednesday, it was already confirmed that Nepal would play table tennis in the Olympics.

As Santu and Nepal’s Sanyog Kapali reached the finals, it is certain that the first Olympian of table tennis will be available. Santu defeated Sri Lanka’s Chamira Ginige and coincidentally Sri Lanka’s Jayasanka de Silva to make it to the finals.

In the final, Santu beat Sanyog 4-3. Santu, who won the first set 11-7, lost the second set 8-11. Santu won the next two sets 11-7, 11-6 and lost the fifth and sixth sets 8-11, 8-11. By winning the seventh and final set 11-9 in their favor, Santu confirmed their place in the Olympics.

On the women’s side, Dhima Fatima Ali from the Maldives made it to the Olympics. In this category, Ivana Thapa from Nepal was defeated in the semi-final. She was defeated by Bandara Bimandi of Sri Lanka. Navita Shrestha’s journey was also stopped in the quarter finals.
