Australia defeated Bangladesh by 28 runs on the basis of the ‘Duckworth and Lewis’ rule in the ICC T-20 World Cup cricket tournament that ended on Friday. This is the first victory achieved by Australia in the ‘Super-8’ stage match. All four teams have played one match each in the ‘Group-1’ table of the ‘Super-8’ stage. Australia is first with two points and India is second with equal points Afghanistan, who were defeated in the first match, are in third place and Bangladesh in fourth place. India defeated Afghanistan by 47 runs in the first match of the group.
In the match against Australia, Bangladesh lost the toss and was invited to bat first. The game was affected by rain after Australia, who came down to bat in response, scored 100 runs in 11.2 overs with the loss of only two wickets.
Australia won on the basis of the ‘Duckworth and Lewis’ rule after the rain did not stop. With the victory, Australia has also strengthened the possibility of entering the semi-finals. Opener David Warner contributed unbeaten 53 runs in Australia’s victory.
Experienced batsman Warner faced only 35 balls and hit three sixes and five fours. Another opener, Travis Head, also added 31 runs to the team’s account. He hit two sixes and three fours in 21 balls. Warner and Head shared 65 runs in the opener. Captain Mitchell Marsh returned to the pavilion in one run. Glenn Maxwell also contributed 14 runs unbeaten for the team. He also hit one six and one four off just six balls. Bangladeshi bowler Risad Hossain took two wickets. Captain Nazmul Hossain Santo scored the highest 41 runs for Bangladesh, who batted first before that. He faced just 36 balls and also hit one six and five fours. Tauhid Hridoy also scored 40 runs. He hit two sixes and two fours off just 28 balls.
Wicketkeeper batsman Liton Das scored 16 and Taskin Ahmed scored 13 unbeaten. Other Bangladeshi batsmen could not score runs in double figures. Bangladesh also got 14 extra runs. Pat Cummins, the bowler of Australia, took three wickets. He spent 29 runs in four overs. Adam Zampa also picked up two wickets. Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell also picked up one wicket each.
