The US has sharply criticized Russia over the death of Alexei Navalny, a critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin and opposition leader. US President Joe Biden accused Putin of being responsible for Navalny’s death.
By issuing a statement, Biden said that the news of Navalny’s death did not surprise him but angered him. “Navalni bravely criticized corruption, violence and all the actions of Putin’s government, Putin is responsible for Navalny’s death,” he said.
Vice President Kamala Harris responded immediately after Navalny’s death, commenting that the incident was another sign of Russian President Putin’s brutality.
Navalny, who was serving a 19-year prison sentence, died in prison yesterday. Navalny, 47, was held in one of Russia’s most dangerous prisons. Ever since he was moved to the dangerous prison, Putin’s critics have accused Navalny of being transferred to the prison in a plot to kill him.
