The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), with support from WHO, Country Office for Nepal, organized a workshop on palliative care for relevant stakeholders to foster a deeper understanding of how the approach improves the quality of life of patients coping with chronic or terminal illnesses along with that of their caregivers. Over 50 stakeholders, working in palliative care, discussed and shared strategies to effectively integrate palliative care into Nepal’s healthcare system, while promoting patient-centered care. Speakers highlighted the importance of integrating Nepal’s unique cultural framework, including traditional healing practices and community-based support systems, in palliative care initiatives, and provided their inputs to develop a national strategy on palliative care. WHO will continue to support MoHP and partners to develop this strategy and implement related service delivery and sensitization activities in the provinces.
