13 dead, 15 thousand displaced due to floods in Kenya

Agency. At least 13 people have died in Kenya due to heavy rains and subsequent flash floods. About 15,000 others have been displaced, according to the United Nations humanitarian agency. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the rainy season (March to May) started in the last week of March.
Its heavy rains and floods have raised water levels in rivers in various parts of Kenya, causing damage to infrastructure, loss of livestock and property, and limited road access.
Particularly affected areas include counties in the northern, central, western and eastern parts of the country. In western Kenya’s Kisumu County, affected families relocated from Nando sub-county said they had to find alternative shelter after their houses were flooded a week ago.
They are relocating emergency shelters and non-food items to flood-prone areas.
