43 killed in sectarian violence in Pakistan

Kathmandu: 43 people were killed when a land dispute between tribes turned into communal violence in Pakistan’s Kurram district.

More than 150 people have been injured in a dispute over the ownership of 30 acres of land. This dispute is between tribals living in two villages of Busehra.

According to the officials, the fighting which started 6 days ago has spread to different areas of Kurram district. The communal violence started after one person opened fire at a council negotiating the decades-old agricultural land dispute.

According to the BBC, violence has been going on since last Wednesday between the Sunni Muslim Madagi and Shiite Mali Khel tribes. According to government officials there, most of the violence is from minority communities.

Kurram was part of the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas, but was merged with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in 2018.
