56 killed in clashes between soccer fans in Guinea

KATHMANDU The death toll rose to 56 on Sunday when rival supporters clashed during a soccer match in Njerikor, southeastern Guinea. Violence erupted between Njerikor and Labe during the final match of the General Mamadi Dumbouya Trophy.

Tensions rose towards the end of the game, when Njerekor was awarded a penalty. The players of Lebe strongly opposed it. As the situation worsened, the security forces fired teargas.

The Prime Minister of Guinea, Amadou Ory Bah, has expressed his condolences through social media. Agency
