Vienna. According to the United Nations, around 85,000 women and girls were murdered in 2023. It is mentioned that 60 percent of the murders were committed by friends and family members.
A report published by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the United Nations Women’s Department to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women confirmed that a woman was murdered every 10 minutes last year.
According to the report, Africa recorded the highest rate of intimate partner and family-related murders of women last year. Then America and Oceania are there.
UNODC Executive Director Ghada Wali called for an end to gender bias and violence against women, saying that the report should make criminals accountable and ensure a strong justice system to help survivors. Agency
