Australia held the first funeral today for victims of the Bondi Beach mass shooting. Large crowds gathered to grieve a rabbi slain in the attack. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said, the man accused of perpetrating Australia’s deadliest mass shooting in three decades will be charged later today.
In a podcast interview this morning, Prime Minister Albanese said the accused will be charged formally if he hasn’t been so already.
In a social media post on the platform X, Prime Minister Albanese said, Australia is hurting, but the country will not be divided by hate or violence. He also thanked the doctors, nurses and medical staff across Sydney for taking care of those injured, comforting families and saving lives after the incident.
Gunmen Sajid Akram and his son Naveed opened fire on people thronging the famous Sydney beach for the Jewish festival of Hanukkah on Sunday evening, killing 15 people and wounding dozens more.
