The Deuba faction has rejected the legitimacy granted by the Election Commission to the Nepali Congress led by Gagan Thapa, who was elected through a special general convention.

According to party spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat of the Deuba faction, a meeting of the Central Working Committee held on Saturday at the party office in Sanepa decided to reject the Election Commission’s decision, calling it a conspiracy against democracy.

The meeting concluded that the Commission’s decision was made in violation of the Constitution of Nepal, prevailing laws, and the party statute. “The Commission’s decision has been made with tainted intent,” Mahat said. “It is part of a conspiracy to derail the country’s democratic system.”

The Deuba faction has also decided to approach the Supreme Court against the decision to grant official status of the Congress to the Gagan faction. Mahat said they will go to the Supreme Court tomorrow, Sunday.

In addition, the Deuba faction has decided to carry out political resistance along with the legal battle. Mahat stated that the political resistance will take various forms.
