Kathmandu : CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has denied giving any order to open fire during the Gen Z protest held on Sept 23, saying claims to that effect are misleading.
In a social media post on Wednesday evening, Oli said false narratives were being spread against him and the UML, alleging that he had instructed security forces to use live ammunition. He stated that a prime minister does not have the authority to order firing on citizens and said he had never issued such an order.
Oli also claimed the protest was infiltrated and said the government had decided to restrict demonstrations at Maitighar due to security concerns. He added that when youths later sought permission for a peaceful assembly, authorities granted approval and the protest proceeded without any firing or baton charge.
However, Oli said security forces were required to act in line with the law when the Parliament building came under attack. He said attempts to set fire near the building and the use of explosive materials meant the incident could not be regarded as a protest, but rather as an attack against the state.
