New Delhi: The enchanting landscapes of Sikkim will once again come alive with the sounds of words, music, and stories as the second edition of the Sikkim Arts and Literature Festival (SALF 2026) is set to take place from 26th – 28th April, 2026 at the picturesque Ridge Park, Gangtok. Presented by the Students’ Welfare Board, Education Department, Government of Sikkim, in association with Teamwork Arts, the producers of the Jaipur Literature Festival, SALF 2026 promises to be a landmark cultural event, celebrating literature, art, and ideas from Sikkim, the North East, India, and around the world.

Conceived as a platform for dialogue, creativity, and youth engagement, the festival brings together writers, poets, thinkers, artists, performers, and storytellers for three days of intellectual and artistic exploration. From panel discussions and literary conversations to workshops, poetry readings, music performances, and cultural showcases, SALF 2026 aims to highlight the rich tapestry of Sikkim’s cultural heritage while connecting it with national and international perspectives.

An initiative of Hon’ble Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), SALF 2026 embodies his vision of fostering creative expression, nurturing young talent, and positioning Sikkim as a hub for literature, art, and culture. The festival seeks to open the doors of the Eastern Himalayas to the world, inviting audiences to explore the stories, traditions, and creative expressions of Sikkim’s communities. It also aims to bolster the state’s creative economy, attract literary tourism, and create opportunities for partnerships that celebrate and preserve local heritage.

Aditya Golay, Member of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Soreng-Chakung, said, “Sikkim has always been a land of extraordinary beauty, deep culture, and rich tradition. Through the Sikkim Arts and Literature Festival, we are creating a dialogue between our past and our future, between our people and the world, and between the stories we have always told and the stories we are yet to tell. This festival will place Sikkim on the world map as one of the most sought-after destinations for literature, art, and creativity. The world will come here, and when they do, they will find a Sikkim that is ready to inspire them.”

Sonam Chopel Sherpa, Chairman, Students’ Welfare Board, Education Department, Government of Sikkim, added, “The Students’ Welfare Board is proud to be at the heart of this initiative. We believe that the foundation of a strong and self-reliant Sikkim lies not only in academic learning but also in creative exploration and artistic expression. SALF 2026 provides our young people a platform to engage with world-class writers, artists, and thinkers, fostering a culture of creativity, critical thinking, and confidence. This festival represents our commitment to building a future where art, literature, and culture are engines of opportunity and growth for our youth.”

Syed Shams Jawaid, Festival Producer, Vice President, Festivals & Special Projects, Teamwork Arts, said, “Partnering with the Government of Sikkim and the Students’ Welfare Board, we are honoured to bring this vision to life. SALF 2026 is a festival of hope, creativity, and dialogue. It is where young voices meet established artists and thinkers, where ideas are exchanged, and where cultural traditions are celebrated and reimagined. This is a festival that crosses boundaries of language, geography, and tradition, reflecting Sikkim’s position as a vibrant and inclusive cultural destination.”

SALF 2026 will explore a wide range of themes, reflecting both Sikkim’s unique identity and its engagement with global conversations. Discussions will touch on climate change and environmental awareness, wildlife conservation, biodiversity, oral traditions, living heritage, history, folklore, architecture, mental health, fiction, and young adult literature, among others. Through these sessions, the festival will provide a space for thoughtful dialogue, creative learning, and the sharing of knowledge that transcends borders.

At the heart of SALF 2026 is a focus on youth engagement. By offering platforms for students, emerging writers, and young artists to interact with accomplished figures from across India and the world, the festival hopes to cultivate the next generation of thinkers, storytellers, and cultural leaders. Through workshops, mentoring sessions, and participatory events, young attendees will be encouraged to explore their creativity and find their voice in a rapidly changing world.

The festival also aims to enhance Sikkim’s cultural tourism. By attracting visitors from across India and internationally, SALF 2026 will showcase Sikkim not only for its stunning landscapes and Buddhist heritage but also for its rich literary, artistic, and intellectual traditions. This initiative positions Gangtok as a destination where cultural tourism complements natural beauty, creating sustainable opportunities for local communities and businesses while fostering lasting connections with the global cultural community.

SALF 2026 represents a significant moment in Sikkim’s journey as a creative state, reflecting a commitment to preserving cultural heritage while embracing modern ideas, innovation, and global exchange. It is a festival for the people of Sikkim, built around their stories, languages, and traditions, and for the world, as an invitation to engage with one of India’s most vibrant and culturally rich regions.

Festival Details: SALF 2026 will be held from 26th – 28th April, 2026 at The Ridge Park, Gangtok, Sikkim. It is presented by the Students’ Welfare Board, Education Department, Government of Sikkim, produced by Teamwork Arts, and initiated by Hon’ble Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay).
