Home Minister Sudan Gurung has arrived in Lahan, Siraha, to assess the security situation amid ongoing tensions in several districts of the Madhesh region.
Gurung travelled from Biratnagar to Lahan via Saptari to conduct a field inspection and receive updates on the security situation.
In Lahan, the home minister is holding discussions with security chiefs deployed in Madhesh Province, local political leaders and elected representatives on maintaining law and order, restoring peace and the government’s response strategy.
The visit comes a day after demonstrations were held in Lahan. The security situation further deteriorated following the death of 18-year-old Ganesh Yadav of Aurahi Rural Municipality-2 during a clash between two groups in Golbazar, Siraha.
With tensions escalating between Hindu and Muslim communities, local administrations have imposed curfews in parts of Siraha, Dhanusha and Parsa districts. Security deployment by Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and other agencies has also been intensified.
