Uruguay finished third in Copa America 2024 after defeating Canada 4-3 in the penalty shootout. In the match for the third place on Sunday morning, the game reached a shootout after the 90-minute match was tied 2-2. Where all four players who scored a penalty for Uruguay missed two players from Canada.
Federico Valverde, Rodrigo Bentancur, de Arascaeta and Luis Suarez scored for Uruguay. Only Jonathan David, Moise Bombito and Mathieu Choiniere scored for Canada. Ismael Cone’s shot was saved by Uruguay’s goalkeeper Sergio Rochet, while Alfonso David’s last penalty was hit on the crossbar. Suarez scored the equalizer in injury time for Uruguay.
In the 8th minute of the game, Rodrigo Bent Nakur gave Uruguay the lead. Mon scored the equalizer for Canada in the 22nd minute.
Similarly, in the 80th minute, Jonathan David scored a goal to give Canada a 2-1 lead and brought the victory closer. However, Canada lost the opportunity to become third in the first participation as it could not handle the final time.
