For the past few days, university students have been protesting against reservation in government jobs for the children of soldiers who fought in the liberation war of 1971. Those who fought the war of independence from Pakistan in 1971 are called liberation warriors. A third of the government jobs in the country are reserved for children.
The students have been holding a rally against this for the past few days. The students say that this reservation system is discriminatory, but jobs should be given on the basis of merit. Meanwhile, after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s address to the nation on Wednesday, the violence has flared up further.
