Japan, An earthquake of magnitude 6.8 occurred in the south-western region of Japan. The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake measured 6.8 magnitude on Monday.
Authorities have issued a tsunami warning due to the earthquake. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said a tsunami wave of up to one meter (three feet) could occur at 9:19 p.m. (1219 GMT) after the earthquake struck near Miyazaki Prefecture in the Kyushu region.
The USGS lowered its estimate from 6.9 magnitude to 6.8 and said there was no tsunami threat from the earthquake.
However, the JMA urged people to stay away from coastal waters. The agency said in a statement, “Tsunami waves may occur frequently. Please do not go into the sea or near coastal areas.” Agency
