Kathmandu : Police have arrested five people on the charge of committing arson and vandalism in the Supreme Court during the Gen-Z movement that took place on September 8 and 9.

The arrested are Raju Pariyar, Kumar Parajuli, Sushil Shrestha and Jyoti Thapa, said Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, spokesperson of the district police range at a press conference held here today. However, Police have not released the identity of one person.

He further shared that search operation in this connection is underway.

The Supreme Court had urged police to investigate and take action against the arsonists. There are 104 cases of arson, vandalism, and criminal mischief related to the Gen-Z movement.

Police figures show that 49 people were killed in Kathmandu alone during the movement. Seven of them have not yet been identified.

Police said they have recovered the bodies of seven people who were missing at the time. “Seven skeletons have been found at Bhatbhateni in Chuchchepati and the DNA sample could not be found as the body was completely burnt,” he said.

Meanwhile, 154 cases have been registered on different charges, 267 people have been arrested, 87 people have been released on bail, 113 people have been detained, 33 people have been released on bail and 43 people have taken into custody for further investigation.
