A fire at the headquarters of Bangladesh’s state television

Dhaka: Protesters set fire to the headquarters of BTV, Bangladesh’s main government broadcaster, on Thursday. The network reported that “several people” were trapped inside the office by the fire.A station official said on condition of anonymity that hundreds of protesters stormed the premises and set fire to at least 60 vehicles and an office building.​​

BTV’s official Facebook page said the fire was “catastrophic” and “spreading rapidly”. The broadcaster said, “We have sought help from the fire service, many people are trapped inside.”

Bangladesh’s police force this week intensified its crackdown on student protests demanding reforms to civil service recruitment rules. At least 22 people have died in the clashes so far this week. Agency
