About 37,000 people, including soldiers, have disappeared since the beginning of Russia’s attack

Ukraine has reported that since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022, about 37 thousand people, including soldiers, are missing.

About 37,000 people, including children, civilians and soldiers, have gone missing, according to Dmytro Lubinets, the human rights commissioner of Ukraine.

Ukraine and the Red Cross have identified about 1,700 people illegally detained by Russia since the war with Moscow-backed separatists began in 2014, he said.

Human rights groups have accused Russia of forced disappearances and kidnappings of children in occupied territories.

A large part of Ukrainian territory has been under Russian occupation since the beginning of the war. The war has ravaged many cities and surrounding areas and claimed thousands of lives.

A report released by the United Nations Human Rights Office in March stated that at least 10,810 people died after the Russian attack.
As independent observers are barred from entering the occupied territories, the actual number of casualties may be “higher” and difficult to confirm.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said last February that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed in the first two years of the war.
