ADB will grant 2 billion to Melamchi drinking water

Kathmandu: The Asian Development Bank is going to give a subsidy of 2 billion to the Melamchi water supply project. Suresh Acharya, Secretary of the Ministry of Water Supply informed that ADB has given more than 2 billion Nepalese Rupees (19.75 million US Dollars) for the construction of the headbox as the flood and landslide of 2078 caused great damage to the headbox.

Secretary Acharya said that ADB has provided more than 2 billion Nepali rupees as a grant while preparations are being made to build a headbox at a height of about 1,000 meters after the Gegran and stones that have flowed down with the flood have buried the entire structure of the headbox.

He said, ‘ADB has invested. He studied by himself. He has invested so much. He also doesn’t want to waste his investment just like that. Rockbelt is above the study he conducted. It is said to cut a rod and send water by adjusting the angle. Also, ADB has now given us more than 2 billion grand. Our damage is 90 crores. He said that you have been damaged, we will give you 2 billion. Should we take that feature or not? Our expenses will be 4 billion, but half of it has been covered. We will raise the remaining 2 billion in 1-2 years, after the water starts flowing in Kathmandu.

Since 2 years ago, he has been suggesting that the headbox should be moved to a safe place, but the cabinet meeting gave an in-principle consent only a few days ago. With the consent of the government, the project has started the process of selecting the consultant for moving the headbox. It is said that the project will be completed in 4 years. The project is estimated to cost about 3.5 billion for this.
