In the Super-8 of T20 World Cup 2024, Afghanistan defeated Australia by 21 runs and achieved a comfortable victory. Chasing the medium target of 149 runs given by Afghanistan, Australia got all out by scoring 127 runs in 19.2 overs. This is Afghanistan’s first win in six international matches against Australia.
Glenn Maxwell of Australia scored 59 runs but could not win the team. Mitchell Marsh scored 12 runs and Marcus Estonis scored 11 runs, while the others did not score double figures.
Afghanistan’s Gulbadin Nabi took 4 wickets and Navi Ul Haq 3 wickets to bowl out Australia. Mohammad Nawi, Rashid Khan and Azmatullah Umarzai took one wicket each. Earlier, Afghanistan, who lost the toss and batted first, scored 148 runs with the help of openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran’s half-century. Karim Jannat scored 13 runs and Mohammad Nabi scored 10 runs. Other batters did not work.
Australia’s Pat Cummins took three wickets, Adam Zampa took two wickets and Marcus Stoinis took one wicket. Afghanistan lost to India in the first match of the Super-8, while Australia defeated Bangladesh.
