Islamism. An anti-terrorism court in Pakistan has on Tuesday issued arrest warrants for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and other party leaders who are in jail. This case is related to the violence of May 9 last year. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is also involved in that incident.
Judge Malik Ijaz Asif of the anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi took action based on the case filed against Gandapur. Authorities were ordered to produce the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister and others in court on April 2.
These are the leaders for whom arrest warrants have been issued
Other PTI leaders for whom arrest warrants have been issued include Murad Saeed, Shibli Faraz, Shahbaz Gill and retired Lt Col Shabbir Awan, Shireen Mazari, Musrat Jamshed Cheema and Saad Jameel Abbasi. The police arrested hundreds of PTI workers and all senior leaders of the party and put them in jail for their involvement in violence and attacks on military installations.
Violent protests began after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan by paramilitary Rangers on May 9 from the premises of the Islamism High Court in a corruption case. His party workers vandalized dozens of military installations including Jinnah House, Mianwali Airbase and Faisalabad’s ISI building. The mob also attacked the Army Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
The administration declared May 9 as a black day and decided to prosecute the protesters under the Army Act
