Bangladesh asked for a proposal to take 40 MW electricity from Nepal

Kathmandu. Bangladesh has asked for a proposal to take 40 MW of electricity from Nepal. Bangladesh is trying to take electricity by asking for a proposal from Nepal. Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Gopal Prasad Sigdel informed that Bangladesh has issued a tender notice and asked for a proposal. According to him, electricity is ready to be sent from next June.
“The matter of electricity trade with Bangladesh is going on. He has issued a tender and asked for a proposal,” Energy Secretary Sigdel said, “Preparations have been made to send the rain in advance.” Deputy Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority Pradeep Thike said that it cannot be sent as there is not enough electricity in the system. He informed that he is ready to send after the rains and the production increases. We can send electricity from June,” he said. Bangladesh has wanted to take electricity from Nepal for a long time. He has repeatedly proposed to take electricity with Nepal.
Because of India, the proposal was only discussed for a long time. India’s transmission line should be used for electricity trade between Nepal and Bangladesh. It was stopped because he didn’t give permission.
But as India is ready to trade electricity up to 50 MW, Bangladesh has now asked for a proposal from NEPA.
During the visit of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachand’ in the third week of May, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that 50 megawatts of electricity will be facilitated for trade with Bangladesh. Addressing a joint press conference on May 18, Prime Minister Prachanda said that the electricity trade agreement will be implemented together with Nepal, India and Bangladesh.
In the last meeting of Nepal-Bangladesh energy secretary level, it was agreed to take 40 megawatts of electricity. Initially India showed the problem of transmission line for electricity trade between Nepal and Bangladesh and agreed to trade up to 50 megawatts. Currently, Bangladesh is meeting its internal demand by importing electricity from India.
In the meeting, it was agreed to build a ‘dedicated’ transmission line for electricity business. Although there is talk of persuading India for this and then it will be easier to increase electricity trade in the long run, but no progress has been made.
Bangladesh, which is experiencing an energy crisis, is under international pressure to increase its share of renewable energy. That is why he is looking for renewable energy.
Bangladesh wants to jointly build the 683 MW Sunkosi 3 hydropower project and take electricity. Engineers from Bangladesh have already studied the project site. An agreement has already been reached between the two countries to form a joint company and carry out the construction.
Nepal Electricity Authority
This hydropower project is licensed by the Authority. The authority has taken the license of the project to form a joint company with Bangladesh. A detailed study and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report of this project has been prepared by the Power Development Department.
The project is located in Ramechhap, Sindhuli, Sindhupalchok and Kavre. Its construction is estimated to cost 1 trillion 60 billion rupees. The target is to produce annually within 7 years of construction.
Bangladesh is preparing to enter into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to take 500 MW of the 900 MW Upper Karnali Hydroelectric Project. The Indian company GMR is going to advance the construction of the project by bringing in the government-owned Sutlej Hydropower Corporation of India.
