The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is on course for a sweeping victory in the 13th national election, leading in 170 constituencies as of 3:30 am, according to unofficial counts and party tallies.

After nearly two decades remaining out of power, the BNP expressed confidence of securing more than a two-thirds majority, calling the outcome an “overwhelming public mandate.” According to unofficial results, senior leaders, including Chairman Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, have won their respective seats.

Other top BNP figures, including Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed were also declared elected.

Jamaat-e-Islami and its allies claimed victory in around 60 seats, while the National Citizen Party (NCP), a key partner in the Jamaat-led alliance said, it had secured six constituencies. The Election Commission has yet to announce final official results, with counting still underway. It also suspended results in three constituencies – Sherpur-2, Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4 – due to pending cases in the Appellate Division.

Akashvani Correspondent reports that while the polls were largely peaceful, opposition parties including Jamaat and the NCP, alleged result tampering and abnormal delays in several Dhaka constituencies, warning of legal and political action. However, the Chief Election Commissioner denied any manipulation, saying variations in turnout and delays were due to the gradual compilation of results from thousands of polling centres.

Meanwhile, the BNP called for nationwide prayers instead of victory rallies, urging supporters to avoid public celebrations as the official confirmation is yet to come.
