Bangladesh: Hindu businessman Khokon Chandra Das dies after being assaulted, set on fire in Shariatpur district

In Bangladesh, A hindu businessman, Khokon Chandra Das (50), of Damudya upazila in Shariatpur district, died this morning while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. According to police and family members, Khokon was attacked on Wednesday night in the Tiloi area of Damudya while returning home.
A group of assailants allegedly stopped him, assaulted him with sharp weapons, robbed him of cash, and set him on fire. Local residents rescued him and rushed him to the hospital. He was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and subsequently shifted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery due to critical injuries. Doctors said around 30 per cent of his body had suffered burn injuries, along with stab wounds. His condition deteriorated this morning, and he died while in the ICU.
Khokon Chandra Das ran a medicine shop and mobile banking service. Before his death, Khokon reportedly identified two attackers. Police later identified another suspect. A case was filed late Thursday night by Khokon’s father, naming the three youths as accused. Damudya Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Rabiul Haque said the police is making efforts to arrest the accused.
