In Bangladesh, President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath of office to the newly elected Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader and a six-term lawmaker from Bhola-3,  Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, took the oath as Speaker shortly after noon.
Following the ceremony, the President also administered the oath to Barrister Kayser Kamal, Member of Parliament from Netrokona-1, as Deputy Speaker of the 13th Parliament. Both leaders later signed the oath of office and secrecy.
Earlier in the day, the House elected Hafiz Uddin Ahmed as Speaker during the opening sitting of the new parliament, with a single nomination proposed and carried by majority vote. Kayser Kamal, who previously served as state minister for land and was elected as a candidate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was also elected Deputy Speaker unopposed. Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman, along with several senior cabinet members and officials, attended the oath-taking ceremony.
Meanwhile, opposition leaders from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami expressed support for the Speaker’s appointment but noted that broader consultations with the opposition ahead of the nomination could have strengthened parliamentary consensus.
