Kathmandu. The Chief Minister of Jharkhand state of India, Hemant Soren, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate last night. The officials of the directorate took custody of Soren at the Chief Minister’s residence in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, during the day.
Chief Minister Soren is accused of corruption in the purchase and sale of land. Before the official information about the arrest by the directorate, Soren approached the governor at night and resigned from the post of chief minister. The Directorate is a body under the central government. It investigates matters such as money laundering, violation of foreign exchange laws, etc. More than four acres of land belonging to the Indian Army in Ranchi was sold with forged documents and the involvement of the Chief Minister is alleged. The Bharatiya Janata Party, which is in opposition in the state, has been demanding action against Chief Minister Soren in this case. Soren had been refusing to give a statement for several days.
Soren became the Chief Minister from Jharkhand Mukti Morcha Party. He represents the tribal community. After Soren’s resignation and his arrest, the process of forming a new government in Jharkhand has started. Soren’s party Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has elected Champai Soren as the new leader of the legislative party. With the support of the Congress, the front has submitted the support of 43 majority members to the Governor. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has 29 members and BJP has 26 members in the 81-member assembly.
