Claim of British scientist – another epidemic like Corona is sure to come

Kathmandu. Patrick Vallance, former chief scientific advisor to the British government, has warned of another pandemic. He said that after some time, another epidemic is certain to occur. The former scientific advisor has suggested that the next government should pay attention to this.

He said that he should be ready to deal with situations like Corona. He emphasized that we are not yet ready to face the epidemic. According to a report by The Guardian, while addressing an event, Valens said, “We need to establish better surveillance systems to detect threats at the beginning.”
Valens said it was an opportune time when elections were going on in the country. It is important to make the threat of the epidemic an issue in the elections. He has suggested the government coming after the election to work on issues such as quick diagnostic tests and quick provision of vaccines in case of epidemics.
Valens told the G7 leaders’ meeting in 2021 that unity against the pandemic is essential. For this, we need rapid diagnostic test, rapid vaccine and rapid treatment so that the risk can be reduced.
Valens alleged that the G7 had forgotten his advice by 2023. He said that if the epidemic issue is removed from the agenda of the G7 or G20 countries, the situation may be the same as before. He said that the epidemic should be faced like a war.
He had said – “We have an army.” This is not because there will be a war this year. Rather, we know that it is something that is essential for the survival of the nation. In the same way we have to look at epidemics. We must always be ready to face it.’
He had accused Sunak of letting people die in the second phase of the Corona virus.
However, Valens has praised the Sunak government’s anti-smoking bill. After this bill is passed, minors in the UK will not be able to buy tobacco. Currently, the minimum age for buying cigarettes in the UK is set at 18.
The Sunak government wants to increase this every year. However, Valens said he was disappointed that the bill would not pass before the election.
Patrick Vallance was UK’s Chief Scientific Adviser from April 2018 to 2023. During his tenure, the entire world, including the UK, had to face the Corona epidemic. During this period, Vallance helped the British government formulate a policy against the corona virus. For his achievements, he was given the title of ‘Sir’ in 2022.
