KATHMANDU : DP Aryal, Vice President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, has been elected unopposed as Speaker of the House of Representatives, officials said Friday.

Aryal emerged as the sole კანდიდate after no other nominations were filed within the deadline set for Friday, paving the way for his uncontested election.

Parliament Secretariat spokesperson Ekaram Giri said the House of Representatives will formally announce Aryal’s unopposed election during its बैठक scheduled for Chaitra 22.

Aryal had registered his nomination earlier in the day. His candidacy was proposed by party chairman Rabi Lamichhane and backed by lawmakers Dr. Swarnim Wagle, Sobita Gautam and Sunil Lamsal.
