The first look of the upcoming Nepali film ‘Roll No. 1’ has been unveiled by production house Seven Seas Cinema, offering a glimpse into the film’s poignant narrative and social themes.

Scheduled for a nationwide release on 15th Jestha (May 29), coinciding with Republic Day, the production team released two official posters on Thursday, highlighting the main characters and the film’s focus on the realities of Nepali society.

The posters use earthy tones to symbolize the struggles of rural life. One poster features child actor Nirbhik Regmi alongside lead actors Mukun Bhusal and Renu Yogi in traditional rural attire, depicting a family striving to provide education despite limited resources.

The poster portrays the boy’s subtle smile and school bag, signaling his role as the family’s hope, while the worn clothes and weary expressions of his parents reflect their daily sacrifices. A distant hillside school emphasizes the limited access to education in rural Nepal.

The second poster captures an emotional scene with the child resting his head on his father’s back. A school textbook lies between them, symbolizing the challenges rural parents face in securing educational materials for their children.

The father’s tired expression conveys the sacrifices made to fulfill his child’s dreams, while the child’s peaceful demeanor reflects complete trust in his parents.

The film’s tagline, ‘Every Student’s Story’, underscores its focus on student life, educational struggles, and dreams, resonating with the shared experiences of rural Nepali children. The title ‘Roll No. 1’ highlights not only competition but also the immense cost borne by marginalized families to achieve top results.

Directed by Jon Yonjan, the film stars Mukun Bhusal, Sushank Mainali, Renu Yogi, and Sirjana Adhikari, with child actors Nirbhik Regmi, Rinchen Lama, Sanyam Katuwal, and Sijal Shrestha.

Produced by Binod Paudel and Janvi Paudel, with co-producers Chhatramaya Giri and Ramesh Chaulagain, the screenplay is by Mahesh Dawadi. Cinematography was handled by Shiva Ram Shrestha, with music by Prashant Shiwakoti, and editing by Madan Ghimire.

Filmed across scenic rural locations in Myagdi district, the film promises an emotionally rich story in the vein of the team’s previous hit, ‘Purna Bahadur Ko Sarangi’. Distribution will be managed by Rich Entertainment and JM Cinema, with plans for simultaneous international release.
