In the United Kingdom, the main disciplinary body for lawmakers known as the House of Commons Privileges Committee has said that former Prime Minister Boris Johnson deliberately misled the British Parliament in an unprecedented way over rule-breaking parties at his office during COVID-19 lockdowns. The verdict by the Committee has further tarnished Johnson’s image. The committee also said that he should be stripped of automatic access to parliament. The Committee also accused Johnson of being involved in a campaign of abuse and attempted intimidation towards them.
Johnson had earlier dismissed the report terming it a lie while accusing the Committee members of waging a vendetta against him. Johnson resigned from Parliament on the 9th of June after seeing an advance copy of the report, calling the inquiry a witch hunt.
