Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ‘hateful’ speech ordered to be removed from social media and media

Dhaka. The International Criminal Tribunal (ICT) of Bangladesh has ordered the removal of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ‘hateful’ speech available on social media and media.

According to BBC Bangla, the court ordered the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove Sheikh Hasina’s ‘hate speeches’ from all forms of media as soon as possible. On Thursday, three judges presided over by the chairman of the tribunal, Judge Ghulam Murtaza Mazumdar, gave this order.

Some videos of Sheikh Hasina’s speech have been going viral on social media for a few days now. Sheikh Hasina had left her country for India amid political turmoil in Bangladesh. She is still there.

Demanding a ban on the speech, the lawyers said, “The audio of the statement and phone conversation of one of the accused Sheikh Hasina has been leaked on some social media and media platforms. Therefore, the interim government is investigating him.

The lawyers said, “Hate speech is a crime all over the world, so we appealed to ban it.” We had demanded that all such speeches available in the media be removed. After a hearing, the court accepted the petition.” Agency
