Hasina appeals to celebrate her father’s memorial day in Dhaka tomorrow

Kathmandu: Ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has appealed to her supporters to attend the capital Dhaka on Thursday to commemorate her father’s memorial day.
Hasina, who is currently in refuge in India, issued a statement through her son in America and made this appeal. “I appeal to you to observe the National Mourning Day on August 15 with due respect and seriousness”, she said.
Mujibur Rahman Sheikh, the hero of Bangladesh’s independence, was killed in a military coup on 15 October 1975. He is considered as the father of Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, a court in Bangladesh has started an investigation against Hasina and the top six people in her administration for allegedly killing a person by the police last month. Mamun Mia, a lawyer who brought the case on behalf of a private citizen, said, “A case has been registered against Sheikh Hasina and six others.”
According to Mia, the Metropolitan Court had ordered the police to accept the ‘case of murder against the accused’. It was the first step in a criminal investigation under Bangladeshi law. More than 450 people were killed in student protests during Hasina’s tenure.
