The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Tsinghua University signed five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on 22 December 2025, expanding their partnership across diverse fields including public health, engineering, law, and astronomy, further strengthening the partnership between the two institutions in academic research and talent development.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by HKU Acting President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Richard Wong and Tsinghua University President Professor Li Luming. The five MoUs encompass five key areas:

  • Collaboration between HKU’s School of Public Health. Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, and Tsinghua University’s Vanke School of Public Health to jointly offer postgraduate student exchange programmes;
  • Establishment of a joint talent cultivation, research collaboration, and student exchange mechanism between HKU’s Faculty of Engineering and Tsinghua University’s Shenzhen International Graduate School;
  • Launch of a doctoral pre-admission scheme between HKU’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Tsinghua University’s Department of Electrical Engineering;
  • Enhanced academic exchanges between HKU’s Faculty of Law and Tsinghua University’s School of Law; and
  • Research collaboration between HKU’s Laboratory for Space Research and Tsinghua University’s Department of Astronomy.

HKU Acting President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Richard Wong said, “As leading higher education institutions in Hong Kong and the Mainland, HKU and Tsinghua University have long maintained close ties in academic collaboration and talent development. I sincerely hope that we will continue to expand and deepen cooperation across more disciplines, fostering frequent and productive academic exchanges to nurture globally competitive talent.”

Following the signing ceremony, a delegation led by Tsinghua University President Professor Li Luming visited HKU’s Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine and its teaching hospital, Queen Mary Hospital. Representatives from HKU’s Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Science, and Faculty of Law also held discussions with their counterparts from Tsinghua University.
