Kathmandu – The Israeli Embassy in Kathmandu organized a program on the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Tuesday.

This day is observed every year on January 27, at the call of the United Nations, in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. This day was started in 2006 at the call of the world organization to commemorate the murder of 600,000 Jews by the Nazi regime during World War II.
National Human Rights Commission Chairperson Top Bahadur Magar noted that international human rights law and structure developed from the suffering of the Holocaust. He said that the promotion of human rights, tolerance, and respect is the need of the day.
Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Shmulik Ari Bash, stating that the Holocaust was a black mark on human civilization, stressed the need to end racial hatred, discrimination and the idea of destroying entire communities. He said remembrance and education are essential to prevent such incidents from happening again.
Diplomatic representatives from Germany and Australia were present on that occasion. A message from Holocaust survivor Sophia Geller was also presented.
