Immigrants will not be granted asylum at the US-Mexico border, President Biden issued an order

US President Joe Biden on Tuesday issued an order to ban migrants seeking asylum at the US-Mexico border.

President Biden signed an executive order banning asylum-seekers from crossing the southern border illegally after officials said there was an influx of migrants at the border. According to a senior administration official, ‘Biden has been thinking about this issue for a long time’ and it is said that effective border control will eliminate the problem of an average of 2,500 illegal immigrants entering the US-Mexico border for seven consecutive days at the same time.

Elections are going to be held in November in the US. Therefore, as this is a serious matter at present, the order will take effect immediately after signing and will give strong instructions to the border authorities to return the migrants as soon as possible, according to a White House official, according to BBC. Before Tuesday’s executive order, illegal immigrants seeking asylum in the United States were usually allowed to enter the country temporarily.

Under the new guidelines, the border will reopen to U.S. asylum seekers two weeks after the number of daily border crossings has been at or below 1,500 for seven consecutive days.

Children and victims of human trafficking are exempt from the recently announced restrictions. However, immigration officials have expressed concern that such exemptions could potentially lead to a sharp increase in children making the dangerous journey across the border.

The executive order is seen as a campaign move to ease voters’ concerns about the nation’s deteriorating immigration system. During President Biden’s tenure so far, he has been consistently criticized by Republicans for fundamentally supporting open borders with the United Nations’ national security spending in relation to immigration policy.
