It is also said that in most of the deaths, the police opened fire on the instructions of Hasina. Abu Saeed, a grocer, was killed when the police shot him in the head while crossing the road. Regarding the incident, businessman Amir Hamza had filed a petition in the case of murder last July.
A month ago, students had started a nationwide protest against the unequal reservation in Bangladesh. But Sheikh Hasina’s government suppressed the demonstration harshly.
Instead of negotiating, the protest became more intense when the police started to suppress it. As a result, on August 5, Sheikh Hasina was forced to leave the country and take refuge in India.
Hasina’s government was facing criticism for increasing corruption and violating human rights in Bangladesh during its 15-year rule. Hasina has become more criticized after the government suppressed the protestors during the last demonstration. At this time, Hasina is taking refuge in India. However, a few days ago, she expressed that she will return to her country soon. In Bangladesh, an interim government has been formed under the leadership of economist Mohammad Yunus, who is also a Nobel laureate.
