Kathmandu— Iranian President Massoud Pezheshkian has refused to hold direct talks with US President Donald Trump’s administration on the country’s nuclear program. He said he would be open to indirect talks.
He made it clear that Iran is not opposed to negotiations in principle. However, Al Jazeera reported that Washington will not hold direct talks until Washington corrects its past wrongdoings and builds an environment of trust.
US President Trump has previously threatened to bomb Iran and impose additional trade tariffs if there is no agreement with Washington. “If they don’t make a deal, there will be a bomb,” Trump said in a telephone interview with American television station NBC on Sunday.
According to Trump, if there is no agreement on the nuclear program, there is a possibility of imposing additional trade tariffs against Iran as four years ago. Al Jazeera reports that the tension between the two countries is increasing. Agency
