Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi was reappointed by Parliament today to form her second Cabinet, following last week’s landslide election win. All previous ministers are expected to be retained. With a two-thirds super majority in the 465-member lower house, Takaichi’s Liberal Democratic Party is now in a strong position to push key legislation for welfare of the country.
Takaichi has outlined plans to strengthen Japan’s military capabilities, increase defence spending and review security policies by December. She has also expressed support for boosting arms exports and tightening immigration rules. On the economic front, her immediate priority is to address rising prices and sluggish wages.
