Lumbini ranks ninth among 52 destinations in the world

Kathmandu. Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha, listed on the World Heritage List, has been ranked ninth among 52 destinations in 2025 by the New York Times. This recently announced work is expected to spread a positive message in promoting external and internal tourism by promoting Lumbini worldwide.

Sanuraja Shakya, member secretary of the Trust, told the New York Times that placing Lumbini on the ninth destination list is a great achievement for the country. Stating that Nepal will be able to do things that it cannot do even by spending money after being included in this list, he said that this pride should be preserved.

According to the Trust, more than 1.1 million people visited Lumbini in 2024. The Trust believes that after being included in this list, tourists will come to Lumbini not only from Buddhist countries but also from other countries.

Lumbini’s historical importance and peaceful environment attract tourists from all over the world. Tourism entrepreneurs also believe that this work will help attract tourists, as Lumbini, which is important from a religious and cultural perspective, is a favorite destination for many tourists visiting Nepal.
