Kathmandu. Atul Kashyap, the senior vice president of US Chamber of Commerce, a leading organization of American businessmen, said that many American companies want to come to Nepal with large investments.
He said this while meeting Finance Minister Varshman Pun at the Ministry at Singhdarbar on Friday.
Kashpay, who led private sector representatives to participate in the third international investment conference to be held on 16 and 17 Baisakh, met with Minister Pun.
He said that many American investors are willing to invest in Nepal. He informed Minister Pun that Coca-Cola, a multinational company currently located in Nepal, is preparing to increase its investment on a large scale.
He said that American companies are willing to invest heavily in the information technology sector and international level fun parks.
“Kakakola is expanding investment on a very large scale”, he said, “We are also willing to invest in the field of international level fun park and information technology.”
He expressed his belief that the government of Nepal will create an environment for investment.
In the meeting, Minister Pun said that the government has given priority to bringing in international investment in Nepal.
He mentioned that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda instructed all the members of the Council of Ministers, including himself, to bring in investments from outside the country and to encourage investors from within the country as well.
Minister Pun said that since Nepal is in favor of democratic system and competitive market, it wants to be more open to the world.
He informed that in order to create an investment-friendly environment, the government has brought an ordinance to amend 9 laws that are considered unfavorable to investment only a few days ago.
“We have advanced the process of reforming only 9 laws through ordinances,” he said, “we are thinking of making further reforms based on the changed context and the suggestions of investors.”
