Kathmandu : Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supply, Gauri KumariYadav, has informed the lawmakers that the Ministry was working actively to address the imbalance of increasing demand and short supply of cooking gas.

Responding to the queries of lawmakers in the House of Representatives meeting today, Minister Yadav said market monitoring was intensified to prevent shortages of essential fuel. She advised consumers not hoard gas cylinders. She argued once the scheme from half to full cylinders was in place, it caused a supply-demand imbalance.

There are 58 LP gas industries operating currently which has a combined storage capacity of 10,166 metric tons. The Minister also informed that relevant agencies were directed to follow parliamentary committee directives, and the Nepal Oil Corporation was taking technical measures to track LP gas cylinders.

Even the diplomatic efforts are underway to secure an increased quota of gas cylinders from India for three months to manage increasing demand. In view of Minister Yadav, a system of recording buyers’ information could be an effective measure to track equitable distribution of the essential, particularly for senior citizens, disabled individuals and those living with chronic health conditions.
