Washington. Snowfall and storms are expected to hit many parts of the country in the United States on Sunday. Forecasters are predicting that millions of people in the East will face blizzards, and some areas will experience the heaviest snowfall in a decade. More than 60 million people are at risk of dangerous blizzards, forecasters say.
The eastern half of the United States will be hit by Arctic air, while the snow is causing serious travel disruptions on major highways. The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned of snow and storm impacts in states from the Mid-Atlantic to the Mid-Atlantic. A winter storm warning has been issued for the coastal states of Maryland, Delaware and Virginia, with an unusually wide area of 1,500 miles (2,400 kilometers) of danger. The NWS said in its latest report that “heavy snowfall will cause extreme cold conditions in the Mid-Atlantic region through Monday.” The NWS has warned of the heaviest snowfall in a decade for areas from northeastern Kansas to north-central Missouri. Scientists say the weather is changing from normal to extreme and severe due to human-induced climate change. The first major storm of 2025 is severely affecting public travel, and Kansas City International Airport announced it would close its doors on Saturday. “Flight has resumed after the airfield runways and taxiways have been cleaned,” Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas wrote on social media.
