KATHMANDU –– Climbing permits have been started for this year’s spring Yam mountain climbing. According to the tourism department, a total of 58 people including 18 women and 40 men from eight groups of climbers have received permission to climb various peaks including Annapurna-1.
So far, climbers from 24 countries, including Nepal, have obtained climbing permits. Department Director Liladhar Awasthi said that the issuance of permits for the spring mountaineering season has begun. “It has been started to give permission for mountain climbing in Yam, permission will be given for climbing Everest soon”, he said, “climbing activity has increased in the Everest region.”
Climbing companies are engaged in the preparation and management of Everest climbing. According to the department, Snow Horizon, Pioneer, Seven Summit Trek, Seven Summit Club, Elite Expedition, Himalayan Guides, Asian Trekking and other companies are currently working on camp management in Everest Base Camp.
Spring is considered the ideal season for climbing mountains including Everest. A significant number of foreigners come to climb Everest during this season. The Everest Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) has deployed an ‘Icefall Doctor’ to pave the way for the spring Everest climb. The SPCC has deployed a team of 10 people to pave the way from the Everest Base Camp to the second camp.
Similarly, skilled Everest climbers have recently been deployed for the work of “rope fixing” (rope fixing) from the second camp of Everest to the summit. The Mountaineering Association of Nepal has deployed eight Sherpa climbers under the leadership of Ashok Lama to fix ropes to the peak of Mount Everest. According to the association’s general secretary Rishiram Bhandari, the climbers went to Mount Everest a few days ago for the spring season’s Everest and Lhotse expedition. Etke Expedition Company has been given the management responsibility of rope fixing for climbing Everest, Lhotse and Amadablam mountains in the spring of 2025.
