The National Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a decision to return the Social Media Bill to the government.

Chairperson of the Assembly, Narayan Dahal, announced the return of the bill after presenting it for a decision in today’s session.

Tulsa Kumari Dahal, chairperson of the Legislative Management Committee, submitted the committee’s report on the Social Media Bill. The bill had been referred to the committee for multi-stage discussion following its introduction in the National Assembly on August 29, 2025.

During the committee review, 35 members of the Assembly submitted a total of 155 amendment proposals. Chairperson Dahal informed that informal consultations were held with the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, the ministry’s secretary, and other concerned stakeholders at different stages.

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology had formally requested the government to withdraw the bill on February 3, issuing official instructions on February 4 for the bill to be returned.
