Nepal is celebrating democracy day on Sunday. Every year Falgun 7 of Bikram sambat is celebrated as National Democracy day in Nepal. A variety of programs are being held across the country commemorating the day when the Nepali people stood against the then autocratic Rana regime and subsequently establishing democracy for the first time in the country.
As a result of the struggle and sacrifices of the ordinary Nepali people, the 104 years of the Rana regime ended in 1951 AD, beginning a new era of democracy.
Reminding the importance of Democracy Day, the President, the Vice-President, the Prime Minister and the leaders of the major political parties have extended their greetings to all while also paying tributes to the martyrs on this historical occasion.
A special ceremony is being held at Tundikhel in Kathmandu today in presence of the President, the Vice President, the Prime Minister and other dignitaries.
