President Ram Chandra Paudel has said that the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Japan marks an important milestone in bilateral ties. During a courtesy meeting with Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs Iwao Horii on Monday, President Paudel said Japan has been a reliable and important development partner in Nepal’s social and economic development, according to the Office of the President.

Addressing the function, the Rt. Hon. President expressed happiness over the cordial and friendly ties between Nepal and Japan, founded on mutual respect, trust, understanding, and cooperation. The president noted that Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, serves as a strong bridge to further strengthen relations between the peoples of Nepal and Japan. The president further expressed gratitude to Japan for its continued support in developing Lumbini as the fountain of world peace. Urging greater Japanese investment in priority sectors of Nepal; such as manufacturing, hydropower, tourism, services, information technology, mining, and agriculture, he also called for expanding cooperation in the tourism sector. While extending warm greetings and best wishes on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Nepal–Japan diplomatic relations, the Rt. Hon. President expressed confidence that this milestone would be instrumental in elevating bilateral relations to a new level and paving the way for deeper and more fruitful engagements in the years ahead.
