Nepal sets January 25, 2024, for National Assembly Elections

The Nepal government has set January 25, 2024, as the date for National Assembly elections to fill the seats of 19 members, including Chairperson Ganesh Timilsina, whose terms expire on March 3. The Cabinet finalized the decision based on the Election Commission’s proposal. The National Assembly’s members serve terms determined by drawing lots, and the upcoming elections aim to elect lawmakers with six-year terms. The upper house comprises 59 members, with 56 elected and three nominated by the President. Each province elects eight members, ensuring representation from diverse groups.
