A sub-engineer working at the Infrastructure Development Office in Malangwa, Sarlahi has been shot dead by unidentified assailants, police said on Thursday night.

The victim, Pramod Kumar Yadav, who had been living in a rented room in Ward No. 10 of Malangwa, was attacked at around 8:00 pm.

According to preliminary police investigations, the assailant arrived on a motorcycle and lured Yadav outside his room by making a phone call. As soon as Yadav stepped out of the compound, he was shot at close range.

Police confirmed that Yadav sustained a bullet wound to the left side of his chest and was rushed to Provincial Hospital Malangwa for emergency treatment.

However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Yadav was originally from Sukhipur Municipality.

The motive behind the killing is yet to be ascertained.

Police have launched a manhunt to track down those involved, and further investigation is underway.
