Nepal’s Supreme Court and India’s Supreme Court sign MoU

Kathmandu– A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Supreme Court of Nepal and the Supreme Court of India in the area of judicial cooperation. According to the Indian Embassy here, a memorandum of understanding was signed today between the Supreme Courts of both countries to develop, promote and strengthen judicial cooperation between the two countries.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Justice of Nepal Prakashman Singh Raut and Chief Justice of India Sanjeev Khanna. Inspired by the cordial and friendly relations between the two countries and their peoples, this MoU aims to develop, promote and strengthen cooperation between the judiciaries of the two countries.
It is said that this MoU will encourage mutual information exchange on the latest developments in the field of law and justice and promote interaction between judges and officials of the judiciary through programs such as exchange of visits, short-term and long-term training and educational programs.
It is said that this MoU provides for the sharing of information related to the technology used in the respective courts and other organizations, embracing the use of technology to complete unfinished tasks, speed up the court process and provide services to stakeholders. As per the MoU, a joint working group comprising officials of the two judiciary will be constituted to promote and further strengthen judicial cooperation, prepare plans and frameworks for the same. The Government of India and the Supreme Court of India have already signed memorandums of understanding for judicial cooperation with the Supreme Court of Israel, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Singapore, the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, the Supreme Court of Bhutan, the Government of Tunisia, the Government of Zambia, the Government of Morocco, and the Government of the Maldives.
